NICHOLLS: William Murray
August 18, 1930 – April 16, 2022
It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Murray Nicholls announces his passing at the PRHC due to Covid-19 with his family by his side, on April 16, 2022 at the age of 91. Murray was born in Blind River, Ontario on August 18, 1930. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy “Dot” (nee: Jackson) Nicholls, on November 26th, 2007. He will be missed by his loving children Doug (Jackie), Karen (Greg) Butler, Cindy Motley, and Dale (Lori). He will never be forgotten by his 8 grandchildren who were the apple of his eye: Robin and James Nicholls, Kelly (Dave) Bartleman, Stacey (Ryan) Reid, Shane (Amy) LaBrash, Jodie (Justin) Pinkerton, Taylor (Kyle) Nicholls, and Courtney Nicholls. His family kept growing with the addition of 8 great-grandchildren: Brynne and Emrey Bartleman; Leah and Drew LaBrash; and Olive, Julian, Raina, and Edan Pinkerton. Predeceased by his brother Keith, and sister Audrey (Ron) Lay. Survived by his brother Don (Shirley) and sister-in-law Gloria Crozier. Murray fell in love with Dottie on a blind date and had a glorious life together for 52 years. Murray lived an active life. He played hockey and ball as a young boy and as a senior with the Otonabee Old Timers, and the Peterborough Seniors Mens Slo Pitch. His career was spent at Canadian General Electric after graduating from Ryerson in 1954 as an Electrical Technologist. One of his favourite things to do was to sit on his deck on a hot summer day drinking a nice cold beer. His 80th birthday was a “Kegger” in his honour where he did his first keg stand. He was determined to do another on his 92nd birthday in August. Aquamation has taken place. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Murray would want us to enjoy a pint and a keg stand in his memory – so Cheers to the best husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend anyone could ask for. The family thank Dr. John Beamish and the nurses of A-4 and Palliative Care for their amazing care given to dad during his stay. If desired, donations to The War Amps would be appreciated by the family.
