CHIVERS, Monica Mary Josephine (nee Geisler)
Monica Chivers, formerly of Callander, passed away peacefully at Cassellholme Home for the Aged-on August 30, 2022 at the age of 89 years. Monica was predeceased by her husband, Leo Chivers (58 years of marriage). She was the much-loved Mum of Karen Chivers and Marnie Dalgetty (Guy), grandmother of Sarah Dalgetty and Jill (Vinay) Mudaliar and great-grandmother of Freya. Monica pre-deceased by her parents, Caroline (Conrad) and George Geisler as well as her brothers and sisters, Edward (late Esther), Arthur (late Ethel), Evelyn (late Bill) Hogan, Alma (late Paul) Mallette, Loretta (late Tony) Van Mierlo, Leonard Geisler (late Betty) and Doris (late Adolph) White.
Monica grew up in Powassan on the Purdon Line on the family farm and later went to Business School in Toronto. Upon returning from Toronto, she lived in Callander with Aunt Alma and Uncle Paul – just down the road from where our Dad lived and they met, married and started their lives together. Dad was with the OPP and Mum followed him throughout his career in Haileybury, Mattawa, Geraldton, Virginiatown and Markdale and then they retired ‘back home’ in Callander after renovating yet another home – this one was Grandma Chivers’ home on Main Street South. Mum loved meeting new people and taking on new adventures with all their moves and worked in schools/school boards in Mattawa, Geraldton, Kirkland Lake and Markdale. She loved to knit, quilt, crochet, cross-country ski, curl, play cards, attend church and dabbled in macramé, ceramics, furniture recovering …
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Callander on September 23, 2022, at 11:00 am and a private interment service will take place at a future date.
