Mildred (Gibbs) Bray passed peacefully at The Moncton
Hospital June 19, at the age of 84. She was born on
September 11, 1937 and was the daughter of Wright and Emelda
Gibbs.
Mildred was born and brought up in Baie Ste. Anne, NB,
attended Teachers College, and taught school for a few years until she
met and married Paul in 1960. They raised their children on Bissett
Ave. in Moncton, in a cozy, loving home. When Paul retired, they built
a cottage in Baie Ste. Anne, where they spent 25 summers gardening,
spending time with family and eating lobster. They eventually moved to
Buckingham Place in Riverview, where Mildred enjoyed playing Bridge,
line dancing with the girls, the annual Christmas decorating group and
socializing at the weekly TGIF.
In her younger years, Mildred volunteered for the Canadian
Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, was active in the CWL and taught
catechism for many years. She was a member of the Beausejour
Curling Club, the SERF Retired Teachers Association and St
Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church. She had many lifelong
friends and made new ones everywhere she went. She was a proud French
Acadian, loved a party and an old fashioned
singsong.
She is survived by Paul, her loving husband of 62 years, her
children Frank of Oakville, ON, Germaine (Jon Burns) of Brighton, ON,
and Cecile (Mike Pettigrew) of Dieppe, NB, as well as her sisters
Phyllis (Arsene Turbide), Dorita (Bill Rushworth) and Astrid (late Ken
Wong), and her grandchildren Stephanie, Blake, Kent, Paul and Ian. She
will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, especially Marie
Savoie Martin and Louise Doucet, who were like her sisters, as well as
sisters in law Katherine Stoddard, Doreen Gibbs and Francoise Viger
Gibbs. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her
sisters Lorraine (Derick Savoie) and Julienne Hatcher and her brothers
Walter (Rita), Fernand, Lionel and Willie
Gibbs.
A funeral mass will be held at St Bernard’s Roman
Catholic Church on Thursday September 1, 2022 at 11:00am. Arrangements
are entrusted to Tuttle Brothers Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen
Rd., Riverview, NB. (506) 857-9544.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thibeau and Dr Hachey for
their expert care throughout her illness, and the team of doctors and
nurses on the 4600 wing and the palliative care unit of The Moncton
Hospital, who compassionately cared for her in her final
days.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mildred’s memory
to The Friends of The Moncton Hospital or an organization of the
donor’s choice would be
appreciated.
