Obituary
Whyte, Michael J.
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mike Whyte, on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, en route to the Owen Sound Hospital to receive his regular dialysis treatment. Mike was born in Toronto to Norbert and Gertrude Whyte (nee LaRonde) on November 7, 1940 and was in his 82nd year of life. As a 13th generation Canadian, he was very proud of his Métis heritage and worked tirelessly to transfer his traditional knowledge to friends and family. He was incredibly active and had a passion for hunting and fishing, the innumerable memories (and delicacies) of which will be cherished by many family members and friends whose lives he has touched. Mike worked at a few different professions culminating in his over 20 years of service with Metro Roads and Traffic serving the residents and visitors of the Toronto area.
Mike will be greatly missed by his loving wife (Carole Lupton) who shared over 35 years of marriage of their nearly 45-year relationship. Special times at remote lakes and locations (including their marriage in Northern Ontario) provide memories of a special relationship between man and nature that Mike cherished and encouraged others to appreciate. Mike was a Master Mason being a member of Myrtle Lodge No. 337; Willson Chapter of Royal Arch Masons; and the Port Colborne/Welland District Shrine Club. Special thanks are offered to the staff of the Southampton Hospital and the Owen Sound Dialysis Unit with whom Mike relied for their treatment over his last few years.
In addition to being pre-deceased by his parents, Mike was pre-deceased by his younger sister Denys. He is survived by his brother Patric Whyte (Oralyn); sons Leigh Whyte (Bev) and Bob Whyte (Kat); beloved grandchildren Talon Whyte (Serina), Drake Whyte (Maitlyn), Mallory Whyte (Marc), Faith and Bobby. Tyler Lupton (Michael), Mitchell Lupton (Kristina), and Jacquelyn Walker (John); great grandchildren Ava, Myra, and a significant number of cousins, friends, and hunting buddies.
Donations will be greatly appreciated by the Huron Fringe Birding Festival where he and Carole enjoyed so many trips driving down rural roads with frequent stops to gawk through their binoculars at their avian treasures. Donations can be made by going to their website a www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-friends-of-macgregor-point-park/ Please ensure to select the Huron Fringe Birding Festival from the “Apply your donation to a fund set up by this charity” rather than the “General” account.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mike Whyte November 7 1940 – January 12 2022 Age 81..
