The family of Mike Falesy of Southampton, Ontario, beloved husband of Rose Falesy, sadly announce his passing on April 12, 2022.
Mike was 79 years of age when he passed away at the Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario on Tuesday April 12th at 2:55am. Mike was born on July 20, 1942 in Kitchener, Ontario, son of Harry and Pauline Falesy. Mike and his parents moved a lot during his younger years and he attended many different schools, in Kitchener, Hamilton, Burlington and then back to Kitchener. Mike moved to Saskatchewan in 1964. We started our married life together here in Yorkton, Saskatchewan in 1967 and would have celebrated our 55th anniversary on July 22 this year. We lived in Yorkton from 1967 until 1970, then we moved to Kitchener Ontario and lived there until September 2017 when we moved to a smaller community of Southampton on Lake Huron. Mike worked as an electrician all his life, first in construction, then as a maintenance electrician at Sun Life Head office in Waterloo, Ontario until he retired.
Over the years, Mike always took our children out West for summer vacations to spend with their grandparents and visit their cousins. He always wanted to go a new way out West to show the children different parts of the US and Canada and would have a map marked for each of them to follow. We went to Yellowstone Park, Vancouver, B.C., Banff, Calgary Stampede, Dauphin Ukrainian Festival and even the Yorkton Fairs!! Mike liked to drive even though after being on the road for awhile, he would have the children asking him how much longer dad or are we there yet? Eventually they got used to the maps on these long trips and now they have great memories of all the vacations as a family. Mike loved taking pictures on our trips and also liked taking the children fishing, bringing home fresh fish for grandma to prepare for a meal. As our children grew, there were many different activities with all of them, including playing on ball teams, swimming and hockey and Mike was also involved in sports himself coaching children in both soccer and minor hockey. Before we knew it our children were finishing school, getting jobs and then getting married, having their children…..which left the two of us spending more time together. We liked to travel and after we retired, we went to Las Vegas a few times to visit cousins and see the sights with them. Mike just loved those trips and yes more pictures were taken of Bryce Canyon, The Grand Canyon, San Diego, California and the Crystal Cathedral, some of the places we saw.
After we moved to Southampton, we had more time to spare so our life changed a little. Mike’s hobbies were working with and sorting all his pictures on the computer, collecting music so we could listen in our car when driving, walking, taking pride in his maintenance of the swimming pool at the condo where we lived. Mike and I loved going for walks with our dogs, Roxy and Pudge. When we moved to Southampton we only had Pudge, he would go walking along the beach, trails and would always see something new and exciting to tell me about when he got back or, yes, show me pictures!. The two of us would pack sandwiches and water in a cooler bag, take Pudge and go for rides through the countryside around Southampton again, always looking for something new to see in the farm country and watching the grain blowing in the wind, reminding us of Saskatchewan. Mike enjoyed our visits with Kevin and Janie who also lived in Southampton, he would say they were the best cooks next to me, Mike loved Kevin’s BBQ food and Janie’s coleslaw and many of her other specialties, he could never get enough of it! Mike was happy and proud of them all and he was always so happy to see them.
Mike always liked to keep in contact with his life long friends Peter and Egon either by phone or our visits with them. Mike also liked playing mini hockey with our grandson Joel and would let Joel win some games too! Whenever we had the chance we always went to watch our granddaughter Mya play the trombone with her band at school or for other performances, Mike was amazed at how she handled that large instrument. Then since I was working part time at Foodland, the owner there asked Mike if he would like a job to face groceries and Mike did not hesitate because after we retired we both worked at FreshCo in Kitchener and he did the same work there. Mike continued to work at the store until the beginning of December 2021 when all things started going downhill for him. In the end it was very trying on all of us… Mike’s condition deteriorated very quick…we were so grateful for the excellent medical staff in London that provided care for Mike until the end…and so grateful… for all our family here that are able to be with us today to say goodbye to Mike. Almost all of you came to visit us in Ontario and Mike always wanted to take you to places you had not seen and in the last few weeks when we spoke to our relatives here in Yorkton Mike did tell some of you that he was coming one more time to visit everyone.
Mike had the best of care in the London hospital that anyone could ever want but it was all too late. The doctors confirmed from the biopsies that Mike had a very aggressive Lymphoma cancer of the spinal cord and Mike was moved to palliative care on Friday April 8th, 2022 and passed away the following Tuesday April 12th, , 2022 at 2:55am. Our family would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for their love support during this difficult time.
Mike was predeceased by his parents Harry (1976) and Pauline (2008) Falesy. Mike leaves to cherish his wonderful memory, his loving wife and best friend Rose (Kozaruk) (of almost 55 years), his children and grandchildren, Kevin (Janie), Mya and Joel; Barbara (Fred Stein predeceased 2020), Brett and Matthias; Michael Jr (Meg), Alexander, Nicolas.

The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, April 21, 2022 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Fr. Andrew Piasta officiating.The responses were led by Rodney Flunder. Rose Falesy gave the eulogy. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Luke, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Jim Eftoda, Craig Chornawka, Barry Hilton, Brad Rosin, Brad Schultz and George Flunder serving as casket bearers.
Memorial donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation – CT Scanner Campaign ( 340 High St. Southampton, ON., N0H 2L0) as gifts of remembrance.
