MACKINNON, Michael- It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Michael Gillis MacKinnon. He was born in Sydney, NS on July 4, 1951 to the late John Alex and Mary (Gillis) MacKinnon. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Michael served with the Canadian Army for 12 years. He was a plumber pipe fitter and life long member of local 682. For the last 15 years of his career he was Safety Manager at TIW Steelplateworks St.Catharines, ON. Mike and Ellie spent 41 years together travelling and raising a family. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing his guitar and watching the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He is survived by his wife Ellie (Adams) son Mike Jr. (Kathy) daughters Tara (Ken) Charters, Jodi MacKinnon and Nadine (Ingo) Konig.10 Grandchildren Kieron, Justin, Sydney, Lydia, Avery, Cooper, Gero, Sandro, Elliot and Ivy. Sisters Mary(Pat) Larade, Agnes (Paul) Grundy, Brothers Ambrose, Albert (Martina). Sister in laws Lorna MacKinnon, Sharon MacKinnon, several nieces and nephews and other extended family. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his five brothers Rannie, John, Raymond, Donnie and Joey and his sister in law Linda MacKinnon. The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton Street, St Catharines from 11a.m-1p.m. on Saturday, October 1st. A Funeral Service to follow at 1p.m. on Saturday in the Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation to follow. Memorial donations to VETS Canada- Veterans Assistance would be appreciated by the family.
