Michael William Meade
1949-2022
The family of Michael William Meade are heartbroken to
announce that he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at
home, after a lengthy battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy)
on February 16, 2022.
Mike is survived by his wife, Colleen (Goodine) Parent-Meade,
the love of his life for 37 years; his daughters, Andrea Dawn Meade
(Alison) and Andrea Louise Milley; his son, Captain Sean Joseph
Parent; Mike’s two grandsons, whom he loved dearly, Hayden
Milley and Logan Milley; siblings, Melvin (Carol) of Sunderland,
England, Paul Meade-Clift (Sheryll) of Edmonton, Chris (Linda) of
Calgary, Edward (Norma) of Rexton, David (Jill) of Rothesay, Clare
Smith (Warren) of Waterford. He was predeceased by his brother Steven,
sister Monica Dykeman (Ronald) and his parents William
“Bill” and Mary Monica “Molly ”
Meade.
Born on February 8, 1949, in Fredericton to Bill and Molly
Meade, the family relocated to Sunderland, England, when Mike was only
six weeks old. The Meade family returned to Canada in 1965 and settled
in Woodstock, NB.
He got his first taste of the printing world in Fredericton,
working on the printing presses for the Daily Gleaner in the late
1960’s. He would send his pay cheques home to help provide
for his family, in true Mike style.
Mike began working as a radio DJ for CJCJ in Woodstock in
1968. He was the voice of the Valley known as “Alphalfa
Aloysius”. His radio voice can still be heard as the voice for
his daughter’s business, the PC
Girls.
Mike was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, having
served with councils in Woodstock, St. Stephen, Fredericton and New
Maryland where he was Grand Knight. He loved singing in the Knights of
Columbus and Sts. John and Paul Church choirs or reading Scripture at
Sunday mass. Even when he wasn’t in the choir you could hear
his great baritone voice above the congregation. Mike’s love
of music included playing the organ and singing at many family
gatherings. His grandson’s favorite memories are of Poppy G
singing on the porch and around the campfire with their
Dad.
A car enthusiast at heart, Mike worked for car dealerships in
St. Stephen and Fredericton. He was a star salesman at Sunset Motors
from 1996 until he retired in 2010.
In 1984 Mike met the love of his life Colleen. She brought
into Mike’s life her beautiful children, Andrea Louise
Milley and Sean Joseph Parent. Together Mike and Colleen raised their
3 children and shared a beautiful life together. He was a romantic at
heart and showered his love on Colleen.
Self taught with do it yourself books, Mike could fix
anything and if he didn’t know how, he would figure it out
(possibly duct tape was involved). He willingly modeled for fashion
shows at the Regent mall with Andrea and Sean, and Andrea Louise was
the only one able to fix his “unfixable”
hair.
Mike cherished his two grandchildren, Hayden and Logan
Milley. They love their “Poppy G” and their “Poppy
G” loved them and was so proud of them. His oldest
grandson’s favorite memory is going to lunch, on half day
school days, with his Poppy G every Wednesday “just the
men”.
Mike loved family time and especially loved towing his fifth
wheel trailer in the summertime. Mike and Colleen were members of the
River Valley Runabouts RV club for a decade. Mike and Colleen created,
with many friends and family, fond memories of camping together. When
they were not on the road, you could find them at local campgrounds or
it wasn’t uncommon to find Mike in his trailer parked in his
driveway waiting to get back on the road again. We can still hear him
singing “On The Road Again”.
He was a man who equally saw the beauty in sunrises and
sunsets. A true family man and devoted, doting husband equally
accepting his family and close friends into his heart.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home in
Fredericton on Tuesday, February 22, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St.
Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at
12 noon with Fr. Bill Brennan as celebrant. Proof of double
vaccination and government issued identification will be required for
entrance to both events. For those unable to attend in person a
recording of the service will be posted on the McAdam’s
Funeral Home website. Donations in Mike’s memory made to St.
Dunstan’s Knights of Columbus, the PSP Society of Canada or
York Care Foundation would be appreciated by the
family.
