MICHAEL STEVEN SHAVER
1970-2022
It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Michael “Mike” Steven Shaver, loving husband and father. Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Winnipeg on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the age of 51.
Mike will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Paula and his adoring children, Kyra, Jet and Storm; his mother Linda Shaver and father Donald Shaver; his sister Kris Shaver (Nathan) and Patience, his dog, who loved him unconditionally. He will also be missed by his in-laws, niece, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous close friends and colleagues.
He was predeceased by his grandparents; Bill & Amy Fuller and Willis & Gladys Shaver, and his uncles; Ken Shaver and Glenn Kerestes.
Mike was born in Winnipeg, MB on November 12, 1970 and grew up in Transcona where he made many life-long friends and could be found on his BMX bikes or motorbikes or hanging with his good buddies. He graduated from Transcona Collegiate in 1988 and later went on to U of M and Red River Community College. He spent the majority of his career in IT working at Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries and Sport MB where he excelled. Mike was so passionate about his profession that he founded his own IT company. He always wanted to do the best for everyone. He worked hard and made many lasting friendships along the way.
Mike and Paula spent the last 20 years together raising a beautiful family, spending time with loved ones, going on many adventures and making many wonderful memories. Mike’s most cherished accomplishment was his children whom he adored and was so incredibly proud of. Mike was the most devoted husband and he loved and cherished Paula, she was his everything and he hers. Everything he did was with the goal of creating an amazing life for his family, which he did in spades.
Mike loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved to travel, listen to all types of music and had an uncanny ability to tell you everything about the band/band members, song titles, which album they were from and even what year it came out. It’s because of those abilities that Mike won many music trivia contests. He enjoyed going to concerts of any genre which started when he was just a young boy and his dad took him to see Johnny Cash at the old Winnipeg Arena. He was incredibly excited that he was able to pass this passion along to his children. Mike made a number of Spotify playlists that we will all cherish listening to for years to come. He was a great poker player, which is where his competitive spirit emerged the most. Mike loved the outdoors, whether it was snowmobiling or skiing in the winter to boating and waterskiing in the summer and everything in between. He especially loved time at the cabin and visits around the fire, participating in loud singing and dance parties and floating on the lake on the pontoon boat. And you could often find him enjoying a drive in one of his yellow Porsches he had over the years.
He had a heart of gold and enjoyed helping others. Having so many life-long friendships, is but one testament to the amazing person he was. If you were lucky enough to have met him, you never wanted to see him go.
Mike will be remembered for his love of life and passion for his friends and family, his long and entertaining stories, and for his many bad jokes. He was funny, charming, witty, determined, and incredibly intelligent. Mike was also extremely loving, kind, caring and giving, and if you were lucky enough, he’d even share his Sweet Tarts with you! His devotion and loving presence were larger than life and will remain that way in our hearts.
Following his wishes cremation has taken place. The Celebration of Life for Mike will be held at Oxford Heights Community Club (359 Dowling Ave E) in Winnipeg, MB on June 10/2022 at 1pm.
In remembrance of Mike’s life, a trust fund has been established for his children. Anyone who wishes to honour Mike is requested to make a contribution to Sport Manitoba via e-transfer to accounting@sportmanitoba.ca or via mail to Sport Manitoba attn: Mike Shaver Fund, 145 Pacific Ave. Winnipeg, MB R3B 2Z6.
Mike, you will be forever missed
and always remembered.
The world lost a great one,
You were one in a million!
A beautiful soul set free.
