Merle Carolen Murray
1936-2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Merle Carolen
Murray announces her passing on September 15, 2022, in the Wolfville
Nursing Home. Born on August 15, 1936 in Bear River, Nova Scotia, she
was the oldest child of Harry and Praxcy (Kelly) Dunn. Often called
Merle the Pearl by her late husband, Gary, Merle epitomized beauty
inside and out as all those who knew her could testify to. She
graduated from Central Kings Rural High School in 1952, the first
class to do so. Immediately after graduating at 16, she began working
for the Royal Bank in Kentville where she would eventually meet her
husband, with whom she would have two daughters, Lynn and Kelly. Merle
stopped working to raise her children but would return 20 years later
to the same branch where she remained until she retired. She moved
numerous times and lived in Toronto, Montreal, Moncton, and Halifax.
However, her love of family brought her back home, to the Annapolis
Valley, where she settled in Cambridge. Merle was an exceptional cook;
her shortbread cookies at Christmas were always well received. An
enthusiastic traveller, she went on many trips with her family,
travelling to the United Kingdom and Ireland several times. She had a
passion for history, especially if it concerned her own Irish
heritage, and spent much of her free time identifying and learning
about her ancestry in her later years. However, her love for her
family outweighed all else, and the love her family had for her was
endless, and her presence will be missed greatly. She is survived by
her three siblings, Robert (Janice) Dunn, Allen (Rose) Dunn, and
Deborah (Gregory) Webster. She is also survived by her two daughters,
Lynn (Gary) Best, and Kelly (Colin Armstrong) Murray; her
grandchildren Ryan (Candace) Best, Olivia Armstrong, Jack Armstrong;
her great-granddaughter, Emery, and many nieces and nephews. In
addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 62
years, Gary Murray. Cremation has taken place and there will be no
visitation by request. A funeral service (with video webcast) will be
held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 in the White Family
Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial will take place in the Cambridge
Cemetery, Kings County. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the Valley Hospice Foundation or a charity of your choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville. For on-line condolences, inquiries or
