KOMPON, Melvin Joseph “Mel”- Suddenly, but peacefully at home, on January 1, 2022 at the age of 84. Beloved husband and best friend of Sandra (nee Barbini) for 56 years. Loving father of Jamie (Tina) of Winnipeg and Jeff, and proud grandfather of Carson and Keenan Kompon (Jeff’s children). Mel is survived by his nieces and nephews Joe (Audrey) Kompon, Bonnie (Steve) Vis, Wendy (Rene) LeClerc and Tammy (Gerald) VanElburg, of Thunder Bay, ON, Connie Trombelli, St. Catharines and the late Cory Trombelli. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Julie, his brother Tommy (Betty) Kompon and his sister Diane (Conrad) Trombelli.
Mel was a former proprietor of Crystal Beach Variety (Thunder Bay), Friar Tucks Restaurant, Somebuddy’s and Cool Moose Café.
Cremation has taken place. Under current pandemic restrictions a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date, followed by a celebration of life. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
