It is with profound sadness that the family and friends of Matthew Mather announce that the bestselling author died suddenly at the age of 52, on September 13, 2022. Matthew was a proud papa to Charlotte and Jack, and loving husband to Julie. He also leaves behind his mother Julie, brother Justin (Jen), and sister Sarah (Ernie) and clearly loved nephews and nieces.
Matthew Mather was born in Sheffield, UK, on September 28, 1969, and lived most of his life in Montreal, Canada. Matthew was an acclaimed novelist and a leading member of the world’s cybersecurity community. He also founded one of the first tactile interface companies, as well as creating a major award-winning brain training video game.
He was a warm, loyal, and generous man who loved and lived life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will live on in his books and children.
Matthew’s celebration of life will be held at Alfred Dallaire Memoria (4231 St Laurent Blvd, Montreal, Quebec H2W 1Z4), on Friday September 30 from 4 pm – 8 pm. The ceremony portion will start at 5:30 pm.

  1. Oh, how I will miss our talks and lunches at Café Cherrier and drinks at Else’s, and seeing you standing outside my home office on Laval, answering your text in which you were requesting some quiet one on one time in my garden, usually armed with a bottle of wine. I will miss your generosity and kind spirit, and, of course, your wild, artist ways, and your keen sense of celebration. I will miss our talks about your latest novel, your word count, your great DeepL translation tips and your excitement about your two beautiful children. My deepest condolences to Julie and the entire family. Farewell, dear friend Matthew.
