It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our father, Mr. Raymond Mathieu, at the age of 93. Raymond died peacefully on January 20, 2022 at Teck Pioneer Residence in Kirkland Lake.
Predeceased by his loving wife of 71 years, Ida Mathieu (Turgeon), his parents Paul Mathieu, Léa Mathieu (Descoteaux) and his brother Gaston Mathieu. Raymond will be deeply missed by his children Roger Mathieu (Esther Fraser) of Charlton, Suzanne Perron (Don) of Dowling, Lorraine Bunclark (Bob) of Stoney Creek, as well as his grandchildren Caroline Hamelin (Andre), Tina Mathieu, Lissa Clowater (Kent), David Perron (Ally), Andrew Mathieu (Tara), great grandchildren Patrick Simpson and Danielle Hamelin, Mathieu Shortt and Jessica Shortt, Dylan Clowater and Nathan Clowater, Leah Perron, and Erica Perron, Amelia Mathieu and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Raymond is survived by his brother Rene Mathieu (Marlene) of New Liskeard.
Raymond was a very hard worker and provided well for his family and taught us good values growing up. He worked at various mines in the Kirkland Lake (Upper Canada and Upper Beaver) and in Holtyre (Ross Mine). Raymond was a Foreman at Kokotow Lumber for a few years. The family grew up in Holtyre, where Raymond worked at the Ross Mine. He later moved the family to Kirkland Lake and travelled to Holtyre daily for work. He was on the Mine Rescue Team at the mines and later in his career he became a Health and Safety/Training Supervisor for the Ross Mine, until his retirement.
Raymond enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and camping, He was a member of Encore Club, 50+ Club and enjoyed bowling and travelling with the group. He was a member of the Assumption Church. After retirement, Raymond was passionate about his hobbies. He loved working on puzzles, doing paint-by-number paintings, reading, sudoku, any pastime was fun for him. He donated many of his paintings to TPR bazaars.
We were all very fortunate to have you in our lives for all these years and Dad, you will be in our hearts forever.
The family would like to thank and extend their appreciation to the doctor, nurses and staff at Teck Pioneer Residence, for their compassion and loving care for our father prior and during his illness.
Due to COVID restrictions, services will be held at a later date.
