Mary Ann Scott (Harris) died November 27, 2022 with her loving husband Bill of 67 years and children by her side. She had fought bravely for years against memory loss and Alzheimer’s Disease.
She is survived by her husband, daughters Julia, Martha (Brian Bertrand), Kathy (Dave Leonard), son Paul (Deanna Scott); grandchildren Brian, Nicholas, Bethany, Robert, and Meaghan, and great grandchildren Madeleine and Nathaniel.
After raising 5 children, Mary Ann went back to school, earning her law degree from Queen’s University at Kingston. She practiced family and immigration law and divorce mediation in Kitchener. Very socially-minded, and never one to hide her opinions, Mary Ann served and assisted several charities over the years. An avid reader and writer, she published 3 young adult mystery novels, one of which was nominated for the Arthur Ellis Best Juvenile Crime Award. She also wrote extensively about family history.
Interment at Pakenham Union Cemetery, and a celebration of Mary Ann’s life, will take place in spring, 2023.
The family expresses its sincere gratitude to the staff of Lanark Lodge in Perth for their competence and compassion during this difficult period. Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Directors, Perth.
