Obituary of Mary Wallace Marquette
It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Wallace Marquette, on January 11, 2022, in Port Perry, Ontario. Mary was born in Vancouver, BC to Angus and Irene Morrison, on March 27, 1947.
Mary was a delightfully intelligent person, passionate about a life well-lived. Throughout her 35-year career with Fraser Valley Regional Library, she was a strong proponent of literacy and community, and she touched many lives. She was both a union activist and, together with her library cat, Roger, a local celebrity. Whether hosting a dinner party or a book club, Mary loved to entertain and was happiest when regaling others with stories and debating hot topics.
Most importantly, Mary was a loving person with a fantastic sense of humour and boundless compassion. She had a special way of connecting with people and making friends everywhere she went. After retiring, Mary and her husband, adventurers at heart, moved to the East Coast to be closer to family. Even in her 70s, she managed to harness the energy to start and run Comfort Cove, a very successful bed and breakfast on Cape Breton Island.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, as well as her sister Johan (Jim) Elgood and her son-in-law, Roger Slaney. She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Ronald, her daughters Sarah (Bruce) Marquette and Valerie Marquette, as well as her nephew, Brian (Rowena) Elgood and her niece Barbara (Rick) Steele. Her kindness and compassion live on in the memory and hearts of everyone who knew her, but especially the important children in her life: Claire, Nora, Dahlia, Gus, Rebecca, and Elizabeth.
Due to the restrictions of COVID-19 a private family service will be held at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choice, will be deeply appreciated by the family. Memories, photos and condolences may be shared at www.waggfuneralhome.com
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mary Wallace Marquette 2022..
Death notice for the town of: Port-Perry, Province: Ontario
My Aunt Mary was very much true to her reputation. She was one of the smartest, kindest and most caring people I have ever known. She had an uncanny way of making one feel comfortable and safe in her presence at all times. We are all better people to have known, to have loved and to have been loved by Mary during her very altruistic lifetime. Sending all my love.
