Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Pauline Paniec (nee Karas) on May 21, 2022 at the age of 90.
Mary was born on January 8, 1932 in Michel, British Columbia, but resided in the Pincher Creek area with her beloved husband Bill for the majority of her life. Mary and Bill met in Michel, while Mary was working at the local bank and after they wed in 1951, Mary quickly took on a new role as mother. Mary and Bill were married for 65 years before Bill’s passing in 2017, and they had a mutual love for family, friends and travelling.
Mary and Bill had six sons: William (Bill Jr.), Richard, Lawrence (Melanie Barbero), Duane (Mary-Anne), David (Kathy), and Robert; and their surrogate daughter, Monica Beranek, seven grandchildren: Ann, Sheryl, Michael, Kayla, Jeffery, Shane and Sarah, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary also leaves behind her brother Frank (Ann) Karas, and her sister Doreen Persley.
She is predeceased by her parents Paul and Anna Karas, and her son Lawrence Paniec.
Mary was the most loving and kind woman you could ever meet and was adored by all who knew her. In her younger years, Mary took every opportunity to volunteer and give back to her community (making new friends all along the way). In her later years, you could often find Mary on the phone with one of her numerous friends, or sharing a coffee with one of the many visitors that would stop by. Her door was always open, and her conversations were forever interesting and full of knowledge.
Mary left a legacy of love behind her and will be fondly remembered by her family and friends.

A small Memorial Mass will be held on June 1, 2022 at St. Michael’s Church in Pincher Creek, Alberta at 11:00 AM.
Graveside Service to follow in Fairview Cemetery, Pincher Creek, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s name to the Michel-Natal-Sparwood Heritage Society.
