MacDonald,
Mary Margaret, Age 65, Pleasant Valley, Antigonish
County
It is with
profound sadness that we announce the death of our dear mother and
grandmother, Mary MacDonald, after a short, yet courageous, battle
with cancer. Mary passed away gracefully in the palliative care unit
of the St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in the early morning
hours of September 15th, 2022.
Born in
Antigonish, on October 7th, 1956, Mary was raised with her many
brothers and sisters on Breamore Avenue, where her father, Kenny
Hudson, still resides. She had an idyllic childhood surrounded by
family and many friends. She married the love of her life, Lawrence
MacDonald, on May 22, 1976. Together they moved to Murphy Road, in
Pleasant Valley, where they raised their two
daughters.
Mary began her
career at the RK MacDonald guest house. She then devoted 32 years of
her life as a teller and later became a loan officer at the Bergengren
Credit Union, where she made many friends that lasted her entire
life.
Mary was a
natural born caregiver to all. Some would even refer to her as an
earth angel. She loved her husband, Lawrence, fiercely, and would
become his primary caregiver in his later years during his many
debilitating illnesses. She also devotedly cared for her mother,
Theresa Hudson, during her battle with
cancer.
Mary was a
loving partner to her husband, Lawrence, for 46 years. She was an
absolutely amazing mother to her two girls, Sherri and Angela, and
would become a best friend to them both as they matured into
adulthood. She was also the best nanny to her three granddaughters,
Mariah, Trinity, and Brooke, whom she loved and protected fiercely.
She was also a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to
countless others.
She is
survived by her two daughters; Sherri of Tracadie, and Angela (Gerard
Kell) of South River Road, and her three granddaughters; Mariah
MacDonald, Trinity Kell and Brooke Kell.
She is also
survived by her father, Clarence (Kenny) Hudson of Braemore Avenue;
her sisters (and dear friends); Joyce (John Crout) of
Porter’s Lake, Dianne Bailey-Hudson of Antigonish, and
Shirley (Jimmy MacDonald) of Arisaig; her brothers Arnold, Lawrence,
and Louis (Lois Benoit) all of Antigonish, and Jimmy of Alberta; and
many nieces and nephews.
She was
predeceased by her mother, Theresa Hudson, her husband, Lawrence
MacDonald, her brother Mitch Hudson, her father-in-law Lawrence
MacDonald, her mother-in-law Catherine MacDonald, and her
brothers-in-law Carl Bailey, and Mervin
Hauck.
Cremation has
taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral mass at
Mary’s request. Donations in Mary’s name can be
made to Antigonish Town & County Palliative Care Society, P.O.
