MARY MARGARET HOLTON
née Lindsay Allan
June 18, 1926 – February 12, 2022
Passed peacefully at home in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late Luther Janna Holton, devoted sister of the late Joanna Lindsay Dalley, loving mother of Luther Holton (Lindsay K), Margaret Lindsay Holton and John L Holton (Constance). Grandmother to Emily Holton (Darren Yearsley) and Alexander Holton (Vanessa Parlette) and great-grandmother, ‘Grandma GG’, to Shepherd, Ray and Joan Yearsley. Margie will also be greatly missed by her many god-children, nieces, nephews and their families.
Her innate ability to help others led to many years of volunteer work, starting with the Junior League in Hamilton and finishing as President of The National Ballet Guild of Canada. An avid golfer at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, (Ladies President, 1965-66), Mum held the longest membership at 74 years. She later became President of the Canadian Women’s Senior Golf Association. Her love of travel took her from Greece to China, Turkey to New Zealand, and ended with a two-year motorhome adventure around North America with her dear husband, Luther. For decades, Mum created many memorable occasions for family and friends at the Tamahaac Club, on the island in Georgian Bay, and at her home, Stoneacres. A natural people person, Mum charmed with quick wit and wonderful storytelling.
The family would like to thank Gemma Aguba and her team for their excellent care over the past 12 years. Also, special thanks to Anita Bowman, Dr. Randy Cross, Chris Boucher, Linda and Gary Skelton, Les McNeill, Philip Vanderkruk and the late Joseph Rennick who all made it possible for Mum to stay at the home she so loved.
