Obituary
MARY JOYCE KING (TOKARYK), passed away peacefully on January 14, 2022, at Moog & Friends Hospice in Penticton at the age of 90. Mary lived out her faith on this earth until her Heavenly Father called her home. Mary leaves behind her son Dale King (Pam), daughter Shelley King-Ingram, grand daughters, Tristyn Ingram and Terina (Quinn) Christiansen, as well as sisters Anne, Stella, Ollie and Rose, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Sadly, predeceased by her husband Harvey in 2012, her brother Andy Tokaryk and her son in law Jon Ingram.
Mom grew up in Yellow Creek, Saskatchewan. She left the farm at the young age of 16 and moved to Winnipeg with her sister Anne. Mary met the love of her life, Harvey, and married in 1956. She worked as a medical secretary at Victoria Hospital followed by several office administrative positions. Mom had an incredible desire to learn and an entrepreneurial spirit. At a time when others were slowing down, Mary studied interior design and opened her own business. Mom educated herself in her interests – herbology, nutrition and health. She spent hours researching and compiling the health benefits of herbalism. Her lifelong dream was to write a book and have it published.
Mom and dad created many happy memories with their children, camping and road trips to the east coast, Disneyland, and numerous trips to the Okanagan Valley and west coast to visit family. Mom and dad retired to the Okanagan Valley in 1991. They enjoyed living in their mobile home on a beautifully terraced garden they created in Oliver. In their free time they spent endless hours touring the countryside. When family and friends came to visit, they always loved to take them sightseeing. Mom and dad took pleasure in their many trips to Winnipeg to visit their children, precious granddaughters, family and friends. In mom’s later years, she enjoyed several trips to Vancouver to visit her nieces and nephew.
Special thanks to San and May, Kim and Ron, Deena and Joe for their loving care and support to Mary over the years. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staff of Moog & Friends Hospice for the outstanding care, kindness and compassion shown to mom in her final days.
According to Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a gathering will be organized at a later date in Penticton. A private family internment will take place at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens in Winnipeg this summer.
For those wishing to donate in Mary’s honour, please consider the Moog & Friends Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Toodeloo….’til we meet again.
