LANGER (MacIsaac), Mary “Elaine” ~ of Middleton, formerly of Sydney, Cape Breton. It is with heavy hearts that we share with our family and friends, the passing of Mary Elaine (MacIsaac) Langer on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at the age of 65. Elaine passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family after a lengthy 34 year battle with ALS. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Michael “Johnny Mick” MacIsaac and Mary Eileen (MacPhee) MacIsaac. Prior to her diagnosis with ALS at the young age of 31, Elaine worked as a CNA at the Colchester Regional Hospital in Truro. She was a proud military wife and lived with her husband and children in various parts of Canada. In keeping with her Cape Breton roots, she enjoyed a good kitchen party accompanied by guitar and fiddle tunes. Elaine also enjoyed a hot cup of tea while figuring out the latest lexicon or suduko puzzles. In her younger years, she was a member of the Doris MacDonald School of Dance, where she met her best friend of 53 years, Claudia (Mumford) Gillis. Left to mourn her loss, is her devoted husband of 41 years, Cecil Langer, Middleton; daughter, Michelle (Steve Rogers), Chester; sisters, Jeannette (MacIsaac) MacDougall, South Bar; and Ann Frances MacIsaac, Coxheath. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Glace Bay and Big Pond. Elaine was predeceased by her son, Michael Langer, Kentville; her brother, Gregory MacIsaac, Sydney; brother-in-law, John Alan MacDougall, South Bar; mother-in-law, Florence (Gouthro) Langer, Gardiner Mines; and father-in-law, Thomas Langer, Gardiner Mines; along with several aunts and uncles. Elaine will always be remembered for her quick wit, strong will, patience and love for her family. Elaine and family wish to pass on continued thanks to the ALS Society and her numerous care givers over the years, especially Classie Tufts, Comox, BC formerly of Port Aux Basques, NFLD. There will be no visitation per request. Cremation has already taken place. Interment will follow at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Charitable donations in Elaine’s memory can be made to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, Middleton, N.S., B0S 1P0, toll free 1-855-825-3448.
