Obituary
It is with great sadness to announce the sudden passing of Mary Alice McIvor-Maytwayashing (Edaw). She peacefully passed away at the Portage General Hospital in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on February 6, 2022.
Mary was born in her home at Lake Manitoba First Nation on January 14, 1957. She lived in Lake Manitoba First Nation (Dog Creek) since 2004 and relocated to Sandy Bay First Nation. She worked as a Homemaker for Lake Manitoba Homecare Services for many years. She met Jerry in 1974 in Sandy Bay. They were together for 48 years and had a double wedding in 1998 with Diane and late Dennis Desjarlais. She will be forever remembered by her amazing personality. She enjoyed raising her grandchildren, travelling, playing radio bingo, and visiting family and friends.
Mary was predeceased by her grandparents Guspard (Gus) and Mary Maytwayshing, parents Archie and Cecile McLennan, in-laws Lawrence and Marie Bernice Desjarlais, brothers Alfred Maytwayashing, Louis Maytwayashing, and Gerry Maytwayshing, son Joel McIvor.
Left to cherish her memory, Mary is survived by her sisters Emma McIvor (Harry George), Gladys McLennan, daughters Erica Maytwayashing and Helen Maytwayashing, daughter-in-law Sara Spence, grandchildren Blake Spence, Joel Jr McIvor, Clarence Jr. Levasseur, Noah McIvor, Dana McIvor, Dixon Levasseur, Kendall Levasseur, and Phoenix Maytwayashing, Jayda Maytwayashing, Tyra Maytwayashing, Hailey McIvor, Laney Maytwayshing, and Aubrey Maytwayashing, goddaughter Amy McIvor, special grandchildren Pacey McIvor, Arianna McIvor, Emmett McIvor, and numerous family and friends.
The pallbearers were Clarence Levasseur (CJ), Joey Smith, Dudley Swan, Jeffrey Desjarlais, Ryan Sutherland, and Lyndon McIvor. The honorary Pallbearers are her family and friends.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge the support from Sandy Bay Chief and Council, Sandy Bay VLT, Sandy Bay Health Centre, Big Ridge Foods, and Lake Manitoba First Nation.
