Peacefully and surrounded by her five daughters, our beloved mother Martina wife of the late Harry, passed away at the age of 97 years in Ormstown, Quebec. Daughter of the late Johannes van de Ven and the late Adriana Buys. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Diane, Geraldina, Grace (John), Joane (Carl) and Francis (late Mario), dearly missed by her 11 grandchildren, Angela (Chris), Christopher (Sarah), Rebecca (Patrick), Alexa (Nico), Jesse (Eric), Emily (Tristan), Justin, Gabriella (Sean), Kim, Derek (Susan) and Kalan and 3 great-grandchildren Emmett, Autumn and Brielle. Predeceased by her siblings Maria, Clasina, and Marinus. Survived by her caring siblings Jan and Isabel in the Netherlands as well as many nieces and nephews . Martina was born in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands and met the love of her life Harry in 1959, before moving to Canada, getting married and settling in Dundee, Quebec. After a successful farming career, she moved to Huntingdon and was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Catholic Women’s League, as well a passionate knitter, cookie and bread maker. Our mother was a true family matriarch and an amazing Oma. Martina was a trusted friend to many in Dundee, Huntingdon and Holland. She will also be missed by her friends and caring staff at the Source Bleue Residence.
As per mom’s wishes the viewing and burial will be private. You are all welcome to bring your memories to share at the Celebration of Life to be held at the Huntingdon Legion, 8 Fairview Rd in Huntingdon on Saturday, July 30th from 1 to 3 pm. Memorial donations are appreciated to the Women’s Auxiliary of Barrie Memorial Hospital www.damesauxiliairesbarrie.org. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Barrie Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion.
