Grace Marlene Pennington-Hundert (née Bast) at 69 years peacefully passed away on her own terms on October 20, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. Marlene leaves behind her best friend and loving husband Ken Hundert. They shared a love of golf, theatre, dining out and living in Stratford.
Marlene is survived by her loving son Charles Pennington, his caring wife Michelle and her cherished granddaughter Evelyne who brought her so much happiness and joy. She has one sister Shirley Vallance (George) who bravely and compassionately stood by her side during the heartbreaking journey. Brother Dale Bast (Lynn) was also a rock for her.
Marlene will be sorely missed by her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Vern and Grace Bast and her youngest sibling Nancy Swanstrom (Bob).
Marlene was a vocal music teacher at the elementary level for the Peel Board of Education for 31 years. After retiring Marlene and Ken moved to Stratford where she quickly became involved in her new community. Marlene loved going to the gym, volunteering, and taking her dance and piano classes. Marlene played an Aitken mandolin in two Celtic groups and performed on the piano with her garage band Peaceful Waters.
Marlene enjoyed the thrill of competing. At 6 years of age, she entered her first step dancing competition and was still competing at the age of 67. As an adult Marlene started golfing and soon found this sport was another opportunity for her competitive nature. Marlene was grateful for being able to enjoy her life to the fullest with excellent health and felt blessed to have had so many dear, dear friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Matusinec, Dr. Blaine, Dr van Oosten, Dr. Thomas, Nurse Barb, the ER, ICU and Imaging staff at Stratford General Hospital.
Marlene’s family and friends will remember her beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humour and be inspired by her zest for life and her commitment to excellence.
At Marlene’s request there will be no funeral service.
