Obituary
Marlene Lucille Beaton
Scotchtown
It is with broken hearts, we the family of Marlene Beaton, announce her passing on January 27th, 2022, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
It would be impossible to articulate Marlene’s personality and presence into words, but here is a humble attempt.
To know her was to love her. Born on September 24th, 1963, in Medicine Hat, Alt. to the late Donnie and Verne (Maddin) Beaton, she was free spirited and fiery from birth. She lived her life to the fullest. Fun loving and adventure seeking, you were always guaranteed an unforgettable memory with her by your side.
Nothing was of more importance to Marlene than her children, the lights of her life and her purpose, Haley, and Cole, who, following in the footsteps of their mother, have shown nothing but strength, courage, and compassion throughout this journey.
Family was of the upmost importance to Marlene. She shared an unbreakable bond with her siblings, in which they all found love, strength and support during their lives.
Her charisma, integrity and genuineness lead her to develop many special friends and relationships throughout her life. The most meaningful being the one which she shared with her partner Tommy. Always up to something fun and looking for excitement, they made a beautiful life. The love shared for each other was evident in everything they did, from simple gestures to their elaborate future plans.
She had a love for travel. Her career in pharmaceutical research brought her all over the world and she enjoyed it tremendously. However, she was happiest while camping, especially in Lake-O-Law, Margaree, with a special group of friends whom she held close to her heart.
Her quick wit and dry humour could bring anyone to tears with laughter. She used this humour and kindness to heal those she nursed as an LPN throughout her career in Inpatient Mental Health and Addiction Services at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Marlene is survived by her children Haley (Tyler) Reginato, Cole MacNeil, rescue pup Jake, partner Tommy Hurley, sisters Donna Beaton (David Simms), Valerie (Jill) Williams, brother Donnie (Wendy) Beaton and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Waiting for her in heaven are her parents and niece, Jennifer Williams.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Marlene’s life will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Special thanks to Dr. Abboud, Dr. D’Intino, the nursing staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and all who reached out to our family during this difficult time.
