It is with great sadness and loss that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Marlene Alaire Blayney, age 86, on April 8, 2022.
Marlene was born in Kimberly, B.C. on February 9, 1936 to Helen and Richard Clement Hassel Thompson.
Marlene maintained strong bonds and friendships with those she grew up with in Kimberley (i.e. Mary) and others she came to know on her journey through life (i.e. Joan).
Marlene had a very strong work ethic (which she passed on to her children), and was passionate about community involvement. To name a few of the associations she was involved with:
– President of the Trail branch of the Canadian Association of Business & Professional Women, B.C. & Yukon
– Board Member & President for 7 years of the Revelstoke Women’s Shelter Society
– Staff Advisor to the Revelstoke and District Museum & Archives Society
– Various positions on the Board of Directors of Revelstoke Credit Union
Marlene had many “careers” but most notably at Kootenay Savings Credit Union in Trail for 13 years, as the Senior Collection Officer and after moving to Revelstoke, 20 years for the City of Revelstoke as the Deputy Director of Corporate Administration.
Anyone who knew Marlene knew she had a wickedly sharp sense of humour, loved to hear and tell jokes, could listen and converse with people of all walks of life, was a sharp dresser (loved her shoes), an amazing cook, loved to dance, and listened to all genres of music.
Marlene was fortunate in retirement to move with her husband, Dave, to their “paradise” location of Balfour, B.C.
Marlene is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dave, daughter Debra (Steve) Fuhrmann – granddaughter Kaitland (Martez) Holland, daughter Shelley (Mike) Dick – grandson Geoffrey (Chelsea), granddaughter Sarah (Justin), daughter Lynda (Garth) Georgetti – grandson Caleb (Marlee), grandson Joshua (Emma), stepson David (Lena) – granddaughter (Candice (Tyler) Rohde, grandson Brinley (Riley), stepdaughter Tracy (Kevin) – granddaughter Katrina (Lewis), grandson Ryan. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren – Jaxon & Lennon Georgetti, Brixton Rohde, Zoumel & twins, Aleya & Mylia Holland.
Dave and family wish to thank the staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital – Dr. Tuval & Dr. N. Barbocha and all the nurses as well as Dr. Ackenbaur and staff (Nurse Laura and Ian and all the Care Aids) at Castleview Care Home in Castlegar, who made her so comfortable and at peace for the short time she was with them and most of all for “getting” her sense of humour.
Marlene requested no funeral service, but for family to have a Celebration of Life barbeque in the summer (she hated winters) and to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers and donations, we ask that you take a moment to hug your parent, spouse, child, grandchild or friend as “time waits for no one”.

As we sailed into the mystic…
And I wanna rock your gypsy soul
Just like the way back in the days of old
And together we will float into the mystic
Come on, girl
Too late to stop now…
