It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Marjorie Cushing at the Civic Campus of The Ottawa Hospital on October 4, 2022, in her 103rd year. Marjorie was the dearly loved wife of the late Lloyd Victor Cushing. She was predeceased by her parents, the Rev. Major Hooper and Mabel MacIntosh, her five brothers (Archibald, Douglas, Gordon, Alan, David), her son Rolfe, his wife Cheri, and their son Alex. She was also recently predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Sylvia. Marjorie will be greatly missed by her children, Janet (Ian), Judy (Mike), Robert (late Sylvia), her grandchildren David (Sarah), Sandra (Jason), John (Leah), Amanda, Allison (Ryan), Alexander, Alexandria; and her great-grandchildren, Danica, Lauren, Nathan, Cameron, Finn, and Charlie. Marjorie will also be fondly remembered by her extended family who have shown her so much love over the years.
Marjorie was a very proud Maritimer with Scottish roots, whose ancestors arrived on PEI after surviving the shipwreck of the Annabella in 1774. Marjorie loved to learn and excelled in studies at the Halifax Academy, Halifax School of Music, and at Dalhousie University. She loved and supported the arts and culture, and travelled far and wide with Lloyd. She particularly enjoyed yearly trips back to Nova Scotia and PEI. Marjorie’s favourite summertime location was the family cottage on Sand Lake, near Elgin Ontario, where her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were most welcome and enjoyed many great times over the years.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Carlingwood Retirement Community who gave her so much support, care, and kindness for the last eight years, particularly Luciana. The family also thanks Mrs. Joan Patrick who was a very thoughtful and caring friend to Marjorie. Many thanks to the nursing and medical staff of the Civic Campus of The Ottawa Hospital for their excellent care of Marjorie.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave., Ottawa on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 12 – 1p.m. Memorial Service in the Chapel at 1p.m.
