New Waterford/Marion Bridge
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of the late Marjorie (Margie) Mason, regretfully announce her peaceful passing in the Regional Hospital, Sydney, N.S., after a brief illness. Early in the morning of July 6, 2022, surrounded by her loving daughter Diane Mason (Marion Bridge); granddaughter Natalie and grandson-in-law John O’Connor (Millville), she closed her eyes and was reunited with the love of her life, her husband for nearly sixty years, the late Johnnie Mason. In our grief, knowing she is now dancing in his arms again, brings us great comfort.
In life, it was her happiest place to be, and they loved jiving around the Mount Carmel Gym, KOC, Legion and other New Waterford dance floors at every opportunity. Born and raised in New Waterford, she grew up the baby of nine children on LeDrew Street. After marrying Johnnie in 1955 and welcoming their daughter, Johnnie built their home on Mount Carmel Avenue where they resided for over forty years. There they forged many friendships with lifelong neighbours, who always showed her and us great kindness. On the weekends, she loved to spend her summer at the family bungalow on the Mira with her family, including her daughter Diane, Gerry (Stu) Corbett, Natalie and the great-grandchildren or going over to visit her ‘world’ the kids, at Natalie and John’s in Millville on the ‘Farm’ where, she often stayed.
Marjorie and Johnnie were both active members of the New Waterford community for many years. Marjorie was a Treasurer and Sargent of Arms of the New Waterford Legion Branch 15 for which she received her 50-year pin. She also enjoyed a weekly club that met for cards every Monday, and volunteered with the JOY Program. What she will be best remembered for was her feisty, playful, kindness and genuine love of family and friends that she exuded until she passed. She was the loving matriarch of our family. The true definition of a lady with a heart of gold, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Johnnie Mason; parents, John and Elizabeth (Bessie) Doyle Deveaux. Siblings, Ted, William, Marshal, Gerald, John (Yon), Gordie, Vangie (Peter Micholosky), John (Mary), Catherine (Adrian), Gordie (Aggie), brothers-in-law William Mason, sister-in-law Rhea Mason.
Forever loved and kindly remembered by her loving daughter Diane, Marion Bridge, granddaughter Natalie (Chris) O’Connor, Millville, great-grandchildren, Taylor, Johnny, Payton and Hayden O’Connor, “adopted” daughter Diane MacAulay, special nieces Gerry (Stu) Corbett, sister-in-law Kay Mason, as well as many nieces and nephews in New Waterford ,Ontario and England, (Kaye), Gerald, Vangie (Peter) Micholosky, John(Mary), Catherine (Adrian), Gordie (Aggie), brothers-in-law Bernard and William Mason, sister-in-law: Rhea Mason. Forever loved and fondly remembered by her loving daughter Diane (Marion Bridge), granddaughter Natalie (John Chris) O’Connor (Millville), great-grandchildren Taylor, Johnny, Payton and Hayden O’Connor, adopted daughter Diane MacAulay, special nieces: Geraldine (Stu) Corbett, Darlene (Wayne) Darroch, Karlene Darroch and sister-in-law Kaye Mason. nephews Derek Corbett and Bradley Mason as well as many other nieces and nephews in New Waterford, Ontario and England, who filled her 87 years with joy, laughter and whole lot of love.
