Obituary of Marilyn Joan Cheeseman
Marilyn Joan Cheeseman
March 6, 1950 – March 21, 2022
Pasadena, NL
It’s difficult to capture in so few words, the life and legacy Marilyn Joan Cheeseman (Mavin), a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. However, we will try. Marilyn was born in Grand Bank, NL on March 6, 1950 and was the first of many children to George Mavin and Melita (Price) Mavin, both deceased. She spent many of her formative years living in Fortune, NL. Leaving to mourn are her siblings; Bob (Jack- deceased), Phil (Kay), George (Marilyn), Mona (Doug), Ronald (Tina), half-brother George (Shirley) Anderson and brother in-law Wayne (Brenda) Cheeseman. She harnessed her passion for helping others pursuing a career as a LPN and worked in the Cottage Hospital in Grand Bank, NL and retired from Western Memorial Hospital. Grand Bank was also where she met, fell in love and eventually married her life partner, James “Jim” Cheeseman and welcomed into the Cheeseman family, in-laws James and Irene Cheeseman- both deceased and many extended family members. Together, they eventually built a life and family in Pasadena, NL. Marilyn put her career on hold, to help raise their 3 rambunctious children: Ricky Cheeseman-deceased (Taff), Susan Ashford, and Michael Cheeseman (Courtney Brockway). Marilyn spent her children’s childhood volunteering as a Girl Guide leader, on school committees, was proud hockey mom and volunteered many years with the Pasadena Winter Carnival Committee. She was a proud and loving Nanny to her grandchildren; Michelle (Scott Girvan), James, Stephen, Aidan, Adele, Lucas, Owen (his mother Dawn) and Adnan. Marilyn was commonly known as “Mudder” and was an honorary “Mudder” and “Nanny” to many which seemed to grow over the years. Marilyn was a strong, loving, passionate woman, she fought her battle with cancer with dignity and on her terms. Marilyn loved to travel with her family and friends, enjoyed spending time in Florida, on a cruise or with her family in Nova Scotia, her second home. She left this world on March 21, 2022, wrapped in the arms of her family.
She left behind a huge Village of family, extended family, and friends with many lasting memories.
We’d like to extend a huge thanks to all the people who made it possible for her to spend her last days in comfort; Pasadena Public health, Pasadena homecare, Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department, EHS, Western Memorial Emergency Department and Western Health Palliative Care Center.
Service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, her family would like you to do an expression of kindness; buy a coffee for a first responder, military, or medical professional, or donate to the Ukraine Humanitarian Effort. Do this in her honor, as Marilyn loved nothing more, than to help others.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Marilyn
