Marilyn Mae Hurrell (nee Duke), passed away suddenly but
peacefully at South Bruce Grey Hospital on Sunday March 27 in her 79th
year. Beloved Mum of Michael Hurrell of Toronto, and Mama to her daughter
Christine Mitchell and her husband William of Mildmay. Cherished Granny
to her granddaughter Michaela Mae Mitchell, the love of her life. Dear
Aunt of Gordon Lacey and his wife Aura Lee, David Lacey and his wife Lesley,
and Lori Lacey, all of Ajax. Predeceased by her Mother Violet Mae Duke,
her Father Herbert Duke of Toronto, and her Sister Lorraine Duke Lacey of
Pickering.
Born and raised in Toronto on September 25, 1943, Marilyn
lived and worked in Peterborough, Ontario most of her life, raising her
children and enjoying her many friends and family. Special best friend to
Bev O’Donnell of Stouffville and Gloria May of Toronto since her childhood, and
Marjorie Coon of Peterborough. Marilyn enjoyed cold drinks, warm sun and
a good laugh, and will be missed by many for her easy nature and quick wit.
She loved old time rock and roll, and could sing along to any song from her
youth. Later in life, Marilyn worked for her daughter Christine in
Mildmay, and loved being a part of Christine’s business and her granddaughter’s
life there.
During the last couple of years, Marilyn was at Brucelea
Haven in Walkerton, with her Lazy Boy chair and surrounded by pictures and
souvenirs from her families adventures. While watching her beloved Blue
Jays, TCM, and CNN, Marilyn and her family were grateful for their kindness and
care.
As I said to her each time I left her side, including for
the last time, “Cya kid” Chrissie xo
Cremation has taken place. Internment and a
celebration of life at a later date.
