Obituary of Marie Elizabeth Skerry
Marie Skerry (Short)
Marie Elizabeth Skerry (née Short) passed away suddenly August 1, 2022, at her home in Halifax. Born June 4, 1934, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Marie came to Halifax as a young adult, where she worked at the Victoria General Hospital. In 1956, she married her sweetheart Joe Skerry and soon started their family. Joe’s banking career took them across Canada where every few years Marie lovingly set up house in a new town.
In 1985, Joe and Marie returned home to Halifax and enjoyed many years living near the Public Gardens, a favourite place of Mum’s to walk and people watch. Later, Mum moved to Melville Heights where she embraced the community there. She loved participating in group exercises, tending garden boxes, shopping trips, and dressing up to join her friends at suppertime.
Marie is survived by her four children, Ellen Marie (Macdonald), Brantford ON; Cynthia Louise (Neil Oldreive), Boutiliers Point NS; Frances Anne (Daniel Forget), Musquodoboit Harbour NS; and Brian Joseph (Teresa Guella), Chandler Arizona along with nine grandchildren (Joseph, Norman, Neil, Heather, Graham, Melissa, Stephanie, Emilie, and Katherine) and three great grandchildren (Louis, Ember, and Zac). She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph O. Skerry, and son-in-law Archie Macdonald.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Spryfield. Marie’s family would like to thank the Melville Heights staff and residents for their kindness and generosity to Mum over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Marie
