Chaves, Maria Margarida – Passed away peacefully at St. Andrew’s Terrace, Cambridge, on Sunday February 20, 2022 at the age of 75. Maria was a longtime employee of Newlands Factory and John Galt Mall. Maria’s passion was to cook and bake for her family and friends and she will be fondly remembered for the love for her animals and gardening. Survived by her husband Jose Chaves, her children Frank (Julie) Chaves, Lucy (Joe) Freitas and Sandra Chaves. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Brittany, Brianna, Brady, Leah, Jacob and Elliot as well as her nieces and nephews. Margarida was predeceased by her parents Francisco Batista and Conceicao and siblings Mariana Castro and Manuel Batista. Cremation has taken place, there will be no service at this time. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by Margarida and the family. The family would like to thank the staff that cared for her at Freeport Hospital. A special thank you to the staff that cared for her at St. Andrew’s Terrace Nursing Home (Deanna, Trish and Ashley).
