Obituary of Margaret Helen Carrow
Margaret Helen Carrow (Nee Collens)
On February 21, 2022, Margaret Helen Carrow passed away peacefully at the John Noble Home in her 98th year. Marg was predeceased by her parents, Trumbull and Margaret “Peg” Collens, and by her husband, Wilfred “Bill” Carrow.
Margaret had no biological siblings, but amongst her many dear friends, two were like sisters to her: Betty Prowse (Ray) of Brantford, and Joyce Lovegrove (Bruce) of Frankston, Victoria, Australia, both of whom predeceased her. Margaret was godmother to several of their children and grandchildren, whom she considered her nieces and nephews. She is the much loved “aunt” of the children of her friends Betty and Joyce: Sheryl Prowse of Brantford, Elizabeth Hagey of Burlington Ontario, and Mark Lovegrove of Australia, as well as their partners and children and grandchildren.
Margaret was a founding member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Brantford, and a life-long member of St. Andrew’s United Church (formerly Zion United Church), where she taught Sunday School for many years, volunteered on many church projects, and handled church accounts. Margaret was involved in many volunteer organizations in Brantford, and devoted a great deal of volunteer time to Lansdowne Children’s Centre in the early years of its formation, as well as to camps for children with cerebral palsy during that time period. She was a long time employee of the Bank of Montreal. Margaret loved travel, and spent a year living and working in Australia in 1959. She maintained a life-long connection to Australia through her friend Joyce Lovegrove, and returned to Australia for six weeks in 1989.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a brief graveside service prior to interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, on a date yet to be determined in March 2022.
If wished, Margaret requested that any memorial donations in her memory be made to St. Andrew’s Church, Brantford.
