Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband Metro in 1993.
There were two things that Margaret held near and dear to her heart, her family and her faith. Family and her love for the Lord were everything to Margaret.
Margaret was not only a housewife and a mother; she also worked at the Richardson Building as a cleaning lady. While cleaning for the Richardson Building, she also got her kids involved in a cleaning contract with the local doctor’s office and bank. She said this was to keep them out of trouble and teach them responsibility.
Later, Margaret worked the night shift as a Nurse’s Aide at Holy Family Home. She held this position for a number of years, until she was injured on the job.
Amongst many of Margaret’s responsibilities, she also made time to take care of a large garden with her family and shared the harvest… always.
In 1971, Margaret proudly added the title of Baba (Grandma) after her name. Throughout the years Margaret was Baba to 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Margaret’s heart was full when the grandchildren would come to play, pinch perogies, and or stay the night. She always made sure no one was hungry, everyone got along and we had the most comfortable sleep with her homemade pillows and quilts.
Margaret enjoyed her daily walks, random trips to the casino, bingo on Tuesday nights followed by something to eat at Salisbury House and late night chat sessions where she would both listen and offer advice.
We’ll miss her bags of knitted slippers, homemade quilts, baking and perogies she would make for the whole family.
She retired out to Nanaimo, BC for a number of years and returned home to Winnipeg after she started to get ill.
Margaret passed away peacefully on January 15, 2022 at Middlechurch Personal Care Home in West St. Paul, Manitoba.
Margaret is survived by her children; Miles (Valerie) Sawchuk, Joanne Sawchuk, Cathy (Roy) Clements, Frank (Karen) Sawchuk, Rockie (Lynne Paradis) Sawchuk, Micky (Kimberly) Sawchuk; as well as her 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
