Margaret Jean Knight Strange – age 91, born February 20, 1931 was welcomed in to the arms of Jesus on Monday, May 2, 2022. This would have been her 69th wedding anniversary with her beloved husband, Lloyd (2011). Jean was loving and kind to everyone she met and had a knack for finding something in common with anyone. If there was a lull in the conversation, just ask her about growing up in Burlington, being newlyweds in the Navy (living in Newport, RI,) or Knoxville High School (1949). If you had the time, you could also ask her about her 7 grandchildren or her 12 great grandchildren. Jean was a devoted member of McCalla Avenue Baptist Church and then Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church. She was very proud that her grandson, Curtis, serves as the Youth Minister at her church. She was unashamedly vocal about the power of prayer and didn’t hesitate to pray about any circumstance. Jean and Lloyd spent many hours supporting their family’s sports interest, sometimes attending as many as 4 games in a single night, often in 3 locations. They loved the O’Conner Senior Center and being in the Happy Hikers, where she was the historian.
Preceded in death by parents, Charles and Trula (Householder) Knight; brothers, Charles Knight, Glenn Knight; and sister, Barbara Shoemaker.
Survived by children, Steve (Janice) Strange of Grainger Co, Lynn (Trudy) Strange, Penny (Tommy) England, and Doug Strange and his girlfriend Karen Smith, all of Knoxville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dustin Strange, Wendy Lampkin, Curtis (Elizabeth) Strange, Rebekah (Brandon) Crowe, Ben (Hannah) Strange, Derrik (Bridget) England, and Michael (Natalie) England; great grandchildren, Troy Lampkin, Laney Lampkin, Ava Strange, Nora Strange, Charlie Strange, Cainan Crowe, Corban Crowe, Cooper Crowe, Palmer England, Jax England, Sawyer England, and Luke England; and sister-in-law, Doris Shepherd. The family would like to thank Trinity Hills Assisted Living and UT Hospice Services for their love and compassion during her final months.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church, 4615 Asheville Hwy with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM with Pastor Curtis Strange officiating. Family and friends will meet 12:30 PM on Friday at Bridges Funeral Home and go in procession to Woodlawn Cemetery for a 1:00 PM interment. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest memorial contributions to the Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church Youth Ministry.
