Margaret Head
New Waterford
It is with tremendous sadness that we, the family of Margaret Colleen Head (Mackinnon), announce her passing on Monday March 21, 2022. Born in Malden, Massachusetts, on January 28, 1968, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Mary (Carpenter) MacKinnon. After an excruciating lengthy battle with a rare cancer, she died peacefully at home surrounded by her husband, family and loved ones.
Margaret spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and loyal friend. Margaret was an exceptional hair stylist and her clients adored her. She also loved being beside the ocean and beautifying her yard . She was an avid gardener and created beautiful landscapes on her property. She said her most beautiful garden she ever created was her family. Margaret carried herself with pure grace while she battled this excruciating rare cancer. She never complained and carried everyone through with her dazzling smile and beautiful personality. Her smile always lit up any room.
She is survived by her husband Jim “Fred”, son Brandon (Jenn), daughter Brooke (Ray); grandchildren James and Justis; sisters Leanna (Rocky), Madonna (Rob), Alexis (Mike), and many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly. Margaret was also blessed to have wonderful friends, in particular, her lifelong friend Alma Head and Kim McCarthy who never left her side.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Linda Mackinnon (John).
The family would like to thank the Palliative care team and the amazing VON nurses, as well as Tom MacKenzie, and the staff at the New Waterford Hospital. They gave Margaret wonderful care and became quite fond of her. We are sending a special thank you to Leah Burns, Amanda Mackinnon, Kathy Tanner, and Shelley Lund for all their support and hard work on the family’s behalf.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of life for Margaret at a later date.
Donations in memory of Margaret can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
