December 10, 1944 – August 25, 2022
Peacefully at her home in Wychwood Park, Toronto, on August 25, 2022, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Anne leaves her best friend and beloved husband of 38 years, H. Donald Gutteridge. Predeceased by her parents Dr. J. Charles Millar and Elizabeth (née Halliday). She will be dearly missed by her sister, Janet Balkwill (late John), and her nieces Anne Hodgson (Andrew) and Kristy Balkwill. Also survived by her brother, Robert Millar (Gail), niece Kelly Millar (children Charlie and Teddy Dennis), and nephew Thomas Millar. Cherished by her sister-in-law, Carol Macfarlane, and extended family James Macfarlane (Lucio Noccentini), John and Amy (Lewtas) Macfarlane and their children, James, Cole and Reid, and Heather Macfarlane (Armand Ruffo) and her son Alex Macfarlane-Ruffo.
Born and raised in Toronto, Anne attended Humberside Collegiate, Queen’s University, McMaster University, and Western University. Anne enjoyed a successful career in education and retired as Associate Dean of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, in 1999. Anne spent many summers at Camp Oconto as a camper and counsellor and was a life-long member of the Granite Club.
In their retirement, Anne and Don enjoyed travel, the opera, time at their Florida home and the family cottage in the Greater Madawaska area, as well as spending time with their family and many dear friends.
Friends and colleagues are invited to attend a celebration of Anne’s life at the Granite Club, 2350 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, on Friday October 7, 2022, 6:30pm-8:30pm.
