Obituary of Marcelle Joyce Elliott
Marcelle Joyce Elliott (Keddy), 84 of New Ross, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 3rd at home with family members by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Ross, she was the daughter of the late Augustine Wollard and Grace Mary (Adams) Keddy.
Growing up on a farm on Keddy’s Hill in New Ross was where Marcie got her love for people, community, animals and life. Family and friends were always in her heart and many acquaintances soon became “family”. Throughout her life she enjoyed family get togethers often hosting them at her home or cottage where, staying true to Keddy tradition, there was always an over abundance of homemade food to enjoy. Marcie enjoyed walking, cross country skiing, swimming, fishing, weekends at the cabin, and traveling throughout Canada and to other countries. She loved animals and nature, in particular her many pet dogs, feeding the wild birds and her latest rescue, a cat named Sam. As of late, one of her most cherished memories was her walks on the nature trail and the wagon rides she and her daughter Jan took regularly at Ross Farm Museum.
At the age of sixteen she was off to Halifax to begin her career. She tried working at a restaurant (short but sweet) and later settled on bookkeeping, working in Halifax for a short time. Her formal career was short lived, as she soon married the love of her life and began her life time career as mother and wife, taking care of her two children and helping with the family business. She was an unofficial bus driver, driving her daughter and friends to school in Kentville. She was a founding member of the New Ross Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary in 1967 and named an honorary member in 2006. She was a proud supporter of Bonny Lea Farm as well as a member of the Bonny Lea Farm Parents Association. Marcie was a member of Christ Anglican Church and a guild member for several years. She and Eugene sponsored many children from other countries and Marcelle was always baking, volunteering and giving donations to many individuals, charities and community functions.
Marcelle will be lovingly remembered by her children: Peter (Tena) Elliott, New Ross and Jan Elliott, Bonny Lea Farm, Chester; grandchildren: Matthew, Dartmouth; Jared (Caelyn), Chester; and Deanna, New Ross; sister: Kaye Countway, Chester; sisters-in law: Dorothy Keddy, Brockway, NB; Alberta Keddy, New Ross; Twilah Keddy, New Ross; Marilyn (Bill) Skerry, Miramichi, NB; K. Elaine Powell, Bridgewater and Linda (Roy) Voutier, Port-Au-Basque, NFLD; many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, L. Eugene Elliott; sisters, Greta, Nina, Leola, Wilma, Irene and Patricia Ann; brothers, Edward (“Ted”), Norwood “(Nod”), Sheldon, Garnet and Arnold (“Chester”).
Her family would like to express their gratitude to her family physician, Dr. Wadden and his staff, her oncologist, Dr. W. Morzychi, Palliative care team – Dr. Patricia Caldiere, R.N., Melanie Spence and to all of the VON members who came to her home. We cannot express enough how thankful we were for the exceptional care and guidance they provided for both Marcelle and ourselves. Thanks to the staff at Bonny Lea Farm for the care and guidance given to Jan always and especially during this time.
Thank you to the people who called, stopped by for a visit, gave her food, cards and flowers, drove Jan and Marcelle places and all the other niceties. These gifts of time and gestures were the things Marcelle appreciated most when she could no longer get out into the community. It truly raised her spirits.
There will be no visitation per request of the family. Celebration of Marcelle’s life will take place Tuesday, April 12th, 2022 at 2:00 pm in Christ Anglican Church, New Ross, N.S. Masks must be worn at the service and the family respectfully requests masks be worn when you are near Jan. Private interment in Christ Anglican Church Cemetery will take place at a later date. Friends and family are invited to the New Ross Legion for a reception following the service. Donations may be made to Christ Anglican Church, New Ross, The New Ross Volunteer Fire Department or Bonny Lea Farm, Chester, N.S. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home New Ross Chapel, 4935 Hwy #12, New Ross, B0J 2M0, (902) 689 – 2961.
