Malati (Mali) Hallquist was born in Calcutta, India and immigrated to Canada in the early 1970s. She settled in Richmond for 30 years before moving to Maple Ridge after retirement.
Mali loved Jesus and enjoyed good fellowship at Maple Ridge Alliance Church. Mali also loved and cared for people. She enjoyed meeting new people and sharing life stories. She worked in retail sales, was a homestay host to many international students, and volunteered at the Maple Ridge Seniors Centre just so she could meet and greet and learn from people. She often said that she did not need the internet because she had her “peoplenet”. She also enjoyed travelling the world and nature.
Mali was predeceased by her husband, Leif, in January and her only daughter, Duhita, in 2018. She is survived by her granddaughter, Lanara, and extended family in India and the USA.
