Maggie was born on August 10th, 1939 to James & Florence Park of McIvers. On May 1st, 1959 she married the love of her life Utley Brake, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Meadows, and was blessed to have enjoyed 63 wonderful years together, From this union they had three daughters. She worked at the Sanitarium in Corner Brook for a short time before her girls were born then helped Dad with the running of “Brake’s Autobody Ltd.” Everyone who knew them knew that if you saw Ut, mom was close by. They spent a lot of time together camping, salmon fishing, and moose hunting all over NL. Mom loved cooking, painting and sewing, especially making quilts. They both enjoyed having a good game of cards with their friends, and anyone who knew them knew Dad would often nod off while playing which you would then hear Mom telling him to wake up and pay attention to the game. Mom had such a big heart and would always help anyone in need, even if it meant she went without things herself. She had many friends both young and old, and enjoyed spending time with them all. Some even considered her a second mom.
We would like to take this time to thank our family and friends, and Mom’s wonderful girls on 4 North at Corner Brook Long Term Care for all their help, compassion and support during Mom’s lengthy illness. She looked at you all as though you were her daughters and her eyes lit up when you walked into her room.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 24th, 2022 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and the funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the Country Haven Chapel. Interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association of Canada in memory of Maggie Brake (Joanne Ruth, 6 Spruce Lane, NL A2H 6B9).
The mist has now been lifted, in front of me I see,
A path that is so clear, that will lead me back to me,
A light that is now shining, to guide me on my way,
With a lifetime of memories, as down to rest I lay.
For my true love Utley, is waiting there for me.
He went there before me, to prepare a place you see,
My girls have been my anchor, for which I can’t complain,
Their love and care have made me strong, for just this special day.
So please don’t be sad for me, for now I’m not in pain,
And I am eager just to see, what God has planned for me.
Love Always,
Joanne & Maureen

  1. Joanne , Maureen and families. You are in my thoughts . Both your Mom and Dad were the most welcoming people and I have such fond memories of so much time spent at your house during my teenage years. I know you have many precious memories that will one day bring you comfort.
