Colleen MacAlpine passed away peacefully in Edmonton, Alberta on August 5, 2022, in her 68th year. In her early adult years, she worked in Christian education for the Presbyterian Church of Canada in Manitoba and Ontario. She and her husband, Neil, partnered for 40 years in raising their two children Nathan and Jeannine. They took great pleasure in creating her raku fired pottery and wildlife sculptures. She enjoyed being a member of the community of the Devon United Church. She was an active member of the Devon Pottery Guild and served on their executive. Colleen was a skilled potter, artist and educator. Her gift for music and art was shared with her children and family. She was a teacher’s aide for Robina Baker School, Devon. Colleen was passionate about fishing, being on the lake and being outdoors in nature. Jeannine and Nathan and the rest of the Carswell/Gate clan will remember well her yelling: “I got one!”. Walleye everywhere were fair game but her favourite place to cast a rod was Lake of the Woods, Kenora, Ontario. Her love of the lake and spending time with family was shared and greatly appreciated by her children. She was an avid fan of CFL football and her grandsons’ hockey and basketball teams. Colleen was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Anne Carswell, brother Donald, sister Marie and grandson Liam. She is survived by her spouse Neil, her children Jeannine (Kyle) and Nathan (Anthony). She is also survived by grandsons Benjamin and Aedan and sisters Cecile (Dan), Mona, Sandy (Kinu). The family will hold a celebration of life in Kenora Ontario. Date and time to be announced at a later time.
