Robins, Mabel Ruth
Mabel Robins (nee Held) passed away peacefully on July 31, 2022 at age 104. She was born on September 28, 1917, and grew up in Fisherville, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Robins, her sister Barbara Aldridge, her brothers Melbourne Held and Robert Held, and her daughter-in-law Susan Robins. Mabel will be sadly missed by her two children, Ken Robins (Lilianna Panasiewicz) of Stratford and Marg Robins of Brampton. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Heather Jones (Jon), Sherri Steele, Matthew Dittburner, Daniel Dittburner and James Dittburner as well as four great grandchildren Avery and Gavin Jones and Parker and Piper Steele. In 1938 she completed a two-year college program in Food and Nutrition in the Faculty of the MacDonald Institute which is now part of the University of Guelph. As a result of that, she received an “Honorary Companion of the University of Guelph” in 2004. She lived in Stratford for the last 62 years where she was an active member of the Parkview United Church, singing in the choir and volunteering with the UCW for over 40 years. In the ten years before retiring at age 65, she worked in the Dietary Office at the Stratford General Hospital. She enjoyed lawn bowling and was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. She loved playing cards in cribbage and bridge leagues until she was over 100 years old. She enjoyed camping with family and then, with her husband, camped all over North America in her home away from home, a little Boler trailer. In retirement, she also travelled around the world with her sister and brother-in-law as well as with her daughter-in-law’s mother, Doris Miller. Following cremation, the family will hold a private graveside service and interment at the Avondale Cemetery Stratford in the future. In lieu of flowers and as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Parkview United Church or the Stratford Rotary Club both of which can be done through the W. G.
