Obituary
LYALL JAMES PHILLIPS
September 21, 1955 – February 28, 2022
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved, Lyall Phillips, on February 28, 2022, at the age of 66.
Lyall is survived by his loving wife Becky, step-children Linda (Jason) and Scott; grandchildren: Kayla, Braxton, Leah, Kenzie and Livia; sisters: Diane, Donna (Murray), Sheila (Gerry), Sharon, and Sandy (Eric); including numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Olive and Milt; sisters: Linda and Bonnie.
Lyall was born and raised in Emerson, MB until the age of 11 when the family moved to Stonewall, MB. He started his career as a Suspension Mechanic at Neuls Spring, then to Paramount, where he became an Automotive Mechanic. Eventually, opening Oak Point Alignment in 1988 where he partnered in business until his retirement in 2009.
Lyall was an easygoing, caring individual, who had a great sense of humour and possessed the talent for the delivery of “great calls”. He was often called upon for his knowledge and his wisdom. Lyall left a positive impression on many. He could always be found tinkering in his shop, with his open door policy.
Prior to retirement, Lyall met the love of his life, Becky. He kept his relationship “low key” until he was able to introduce her to his mother. Lyall, had the most amazing bond with his mother and without her approval the relationship would not move forward (mama’s boy). If that wasn’t hard enough, next step was all the sisters!
Lyall married Becky in the summer of 2012, and became an instant grandfather. One of his proudest moments, was being called Grandpa on his wedding day. Lyall loved to spend his days on his favourite toy, (the boat) soaking up the sun, cruising the Red, and catching some fish. Along with the love of cruising he also enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, his motorcycle, and classic cars. Eventually, turning his love of cruising to a Motorhome. Lyall, Becky and the fur babies became snowbirds and travelled throughout North America.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, MB with Rev. Anthon Bouw officiating.
A special thank you to Dr. Permack and his team for the awesome care and support. Additionally, the staff of HSC, the Cardiology team at St. Boniface, the Amputee Rehab Hospital, and Diabetes Association.
