Obituary for
Luigia “Louisa” Benvenuto
It is with deepest sorrow and aching hearts that we announce the passing of my beloved mom, our cherished Nonna and our family matriarch on April 24, 2022 at the age of 91 years.
Luigia is survived by her husband, Giuseppe (Joe) of 67 years; her only child, Lorenzo (Joanna); and her three grandchildren, Nina, Joseph and Paolo, all located in Edmonton. She was predeceased by all her siblings, Berto, Bruno, Massimo, Francesco, Vittoria and Maria. She is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews of the extended Parussini and Benvenuto families in Italy and Canada.
Luiga Parussini was born in 1930 in Gradiscutta, Friuli, Italy. The youngest of seven children, she was the sweetheart of the family. When she was young, she trained as a seamstress, a skill she retained for life and which fueled her love for clothes and fashion. In 1955, she came to Canada with her newlywed husband, Giuseppe, intending to return to Italy after a few years, but eventually they settled in Edmonton. As part of a close-knit community of Italians in Edmonton, she enjoyed many happy years with family and friends. At celebrations, Louisa was always singing or dancing to Furlan and Italian songs.
We will remember Louisa as a dedicated, loving mother and a Nonna who cared deeply for her family. She had a gentle and compassionate soul, and despite many health setbacks, she remained resilient. She taught us about beauty, simplicity and elegance. Devoutly Catholic, she inspired us to the power of prayer and to always be supportive and kind to each other. Mandi Ma.
