Obituary
We are heartbroken to announce the death of our beautiful mother Lucy Miller (nee Waytowich) who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in Calgary.
Mom cherished her family, daughters, Karen Miller (Brian Anderson) and Monique Miller both of Calgary; grandchildren, Amanda Hallborg (Chris) of Fruitvale BC, Jesse Marion (Mona) of Edmonton, Kyle Miller-Anderson, Calgary, Conrad Marion of Hamilton Ontario and Kelcie Miller-Anderson, Calgary. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Keirra Hallborg, Kaylee Hallborg, and Jasmin Marion. She was predeceased by her husband Keith Miller, and sisters Doris and Olga.
Mom lived a long and full life, savoring every moment along the way. Throughout her life, she was blessed to travel and live in many wonderous places (such is the life of the Air Force wife). She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, but spent her childhood time in Sandy Lake, Manitoba. She married Keith Miller at 18 and moved to Virton, Belgium a few years later, a place she loved. Although filled with cobblestone streets, she maintained the dress code of high heels with style and grace. Mom had an extensive shoe collection and we rarely saw her without her heels. Returning from France in 1967 with their souvenir Monique, they settled into an Airforce base deep in the woods of Northern Manitoba where she quickly established herself as the neighborhood hairdresser (a new skill for her). Her stay there was short and the family soon landed in Fort Saskatchewan Alberta, where lifelong friendships were forged. Lucy moved to Calgary shortly after the death of her husband in 1994 to be near her daughters and cherished grandchildren. She was the loving matriarch of our family.
She was a lady of many talents becoming a successful painter, potter, and seamstress throughout her life. Mom’s biggest passion (besides her family of course) was her bridge club and her incredible bridge ladies. One of her proudest achievements was reaching ACBL Life Master status in 2006. Throughout her life, mom performed hundreds of weddings as a Marriage Commissioner for over 40 years, a role she loved.
Mom was loved by all who knew her and will always be remembered for her humor, kindness, and strength. She will be missed by many.
As per mom’s wishes, no funeral or service will be held. In lieu, please take a moment to remember the times you shared with her and smile, she would like that.
