Obituary of Lucia O’Toole
O’Toole, Lucia Bernadette –
It is with a sense of profound sadness that the family of Lucia Bernadette O’Toole announce her passing on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a period of failing health with her family by her side. Lucia was the youngest child of the late Evelyn Elizabeth (Perry) and James Edward O’Toole. She was born at the Saint John General Hospital on October 6, 1957.
Lucia lived her entire life in Saint John. She graduated from Millidgeville North High School, class of ’76. Before and after graduation Lucia held several positions in the retail sector which she enjoyed. She was a kind and gentle person who lived her life quietly and unencumbered by the need to acquire the trapping of stuff. In her life’s journey, she travelled light and her main interest in life was her siblings and their families. Lucia’s most often asked question was “How’s all the family?”. She stayed current in the lives of her nieces and nephews and their children; always interested in their interests and accomplishments.
Her innate grace and peace allowed Lucia to meet and rise above the challenges and losses that life presented her, and she had a few.
We, her siblings, have much to thank Lucia for:
“You have long been threading the needle that has
Stitched our family together. Your work, it was
Accomplished quietly and with such heart,
And you leave us with the gift of a job well done.
Now, it’s left to us to keep the golden thread
That you strung so strong and true, intact
Joining our hearts forever.
Until we are reunited with you,
Rest easy in the arms of Jesus.
Lucia, You are loved.”
Lucia is survived by her two sisters and three brothers: Elizabeth (Betty) Haché (Réal) and Mary Tremblay (Richard) both of Quispamsis, Patrick (Pat) O’Toole (Cyndi) of Bloomfield, Terry O’Toole (Mary Lou) of Black River and Philip O’Toole (Nancy) of Hampton; a special aunt Pearl Perry Redmond and cousin Margaret Perry Dupuis of Coles Island, NB. Her eighteen nieces and nephews and thirteen great-nieces and great-nephews as well as numerous cousins and several close friends will miss her quiet beautiful light.
Lucia was predeceased by her father in September 1987 and her mother in October 1988.
Heartfelt thanks from the family to the wonderful nurses and doctors of the Palliative Care Unit of the SJRH. Special thanks to Dr. Chris O’Brien for his exceptional care and kindness and for the time spent with the family.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on |June 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM from Holy Redeemer Parish (St.Pius X) with interment immediately following the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
