Loveth Beniuk December 1 1932 August 25 2022 (age 89)

Obituary
Respectfully submitted by the Beniuk family.
Loveth Luba Beniuk was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world on August 25, 2022 at the age of 89 to be with her husband, John. They are now together in paradise. Хай з Богом спочиває. May they rest with God.
Loveth (Luba) is survived by her children Donna (Gerald), Diane (Garry), Allan (Jennifer), and Baba to Brandon, Natalie (Jason), Heidi (Darrell), Kellie (Ian), Ian (Payton), Max, and Savannah, and great granddaughter Noelle Luba Anne Hebert and all of Loveth’s cousins that are still in Ukraine. Loveth devoted her life to her family!
Luba was born on December 1, 1932 in Brany, Ukraine. Together with her parents, Mateusz and Anna Bakay and her sisters Violet and Olya, aunt Mary and Baba Fevronia, Luba emigrated from Ukraine to Venice, Alberta in May 1939. They homesteaded on one quarter of land. Clearing the land by hand and living in a small two room log house. The floor was dirt and the walls were mudded regularly. They dug a shallow well by hand.
Luba walked one mile to the one room Venice School House for grades 1-8. It was there at the Venice school that her teacher changed her name from Luba to Loveth. Upon completing grade 8, Loveth moved to Lac La Biche and continued her high school education. In grade 9, Loveth had the highest academic standing and received the prestigious Governors General Award.
Loveth graduated High School and went off to McTavish Business College in Edmonton. Upon return to Lac La Biche her first job was with the Alberta Treasury Branch (ATB). Loveth’s first cheque for one month of work was $86.32.
In 1953 Loveth married this cute Ukrainian boy she met at Hamars Store, John Beniuk and together they raised two daughters and a son. Their home always had an aroma of fresh baked Ukrainian food and much, much more. Loveth returned to work outside the home and worked for the Government of Alberta in the Dept. of Municipal Affairs, Alberta Vocational College, and Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Regional Office.
Loveth always put others’ needs before her own. Loveth had a strong Christian Faith and spent much of her time at prayer or volunteering in anyway she could. Loveth joined the Alberta Ukrainian Choir and served on many boards and committees as a volunteer for the betterment of our community. She enjoyed curling, bowling, singing, dancing, fishing and gardening. Loveth belonged to the Order of the Royal Purple and the All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church congregation and choir.
Loveth and John’s retirement years were filled with travel back to the place of her birth, Ukraine as well as Jamaica, Hawaii, Florida, Arizona, California, Nevada, Domincan Republic, Aruba, Mexico.
Even though life was tough for Loveth growing up as an immigrant in Canada. Loveth was always there to lend a hand and support anyone that needed help.
Loveth developed a solid work ethic. Cooking and gardening would be many of the life lessons she would pass on to her children and grandchildren.
Loveth will be deeply missed by her surviving sibling Olya (John) Chittick as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Loveth was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Mateusz Bakay, and siblings, Violet Macor, Steve Bakay, grandson, Owen Cloutier and husband John Beniuk.
