A private burial is planned to bid farewell to a most remarkable woman. In lieu of flowers, Louise would have asked family and friends to contribute to the SPCA Monteregis (spcamonteregie.com/en/).
Deceased 5 June 2022
Louise Mason (née: Louise Natalie Elizabeth Arcand, Born in Lachine, Quebec, March 29, 1932)
Louise leaves behind her husband, Wayne Albert Mason of Knowlton, Quebec and three generations of the family line:
Four children: Glenn (Patti), Judith (Piotr), Janet (Dale), Ralph (Fedra)
Nine grandchildren: Annie (Shane), David, Myles (Rachelle), Beal (Izabella), Christopher, Claire, Kevin, Simone, Daniel
Five great-grandchildren: Aiden, Wayne, Chloe, Piper and Caleb.
Louise also leaves behind her brother Stephen and is predeceased by her parents, Paul and Maude Arcand, and her brothers, Paul and Pierre. She was a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.
In the 25th year of her 90-year journey, Louise Mason followed love and adventure (“Wayne”), leaving the city life of Montreal and moving to the rural life of Brome County to an idyllic family farm in Iron Hill.
Finding her true self in the Eastern Townships she provided unconditional love and support to Wayne, his family and their rural community. Louise and Wayne celebrated 65 years of marriage on June 1st – a testament of their dedication to one another and to the strength of their love. Her strong will to master the challenges of farm life while raising their four children was made possible by her strong values and sense of fairness.
Louise was resourceful and talented – well known for her culinary, sewing, knitting and artistic skills. No other apple pie compares! She was an avid reader (mystery novels were her favourite) and she maintained a well-informed interest in national and international affairs, history and culture; inspiring her children to do likewise. Her breadth of knowledge also served her well for a favored pastime of completing the most complex of crossword puzzles. Louise appreciated great music from classical to country and was the social convener for large family and friend events in the spacious farm kitchen.
When the children were older she began working away from the family farm, finding local employment that she enjoyed. Louise never sought a life of grandeur and while she remained humble with her chosen position in life she had an eye for beauty and aesthetics. Her compassion for animal welfare was strong and the many dogs in her life were faithful companions and treated with great affection.
