Lorne Dale Selbee
1928 – 2022
“At 12:18 pm on September 28th our 10 day vigil ended. With his family by his side, an era slipped away to join long gone family and friends, yet Dad’s life will remain within our hearts and minds each time his story is told”.
Lorne Dale Selbee passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital in Clearwater, BC. He was born on his family homestead near Aylesbury, Saskatchewan on August 27, 1928 where he lived with his mother and father, Orville and Fern Selbee. He moved with his parents to Chilliwack, BC followed by Kamloops BC where he met and married his wife, Peggy, and together they raised nine children.
In 1972, Lorne and his family moved to Clearwater, BC where they came to know many people in the North Thompson Valley as the owners of Wells Gray Hardware Store (MacLeods/Home Hardware). A dedicated outdoorsman, Lorne was happiest when he was able to share his love for the wilderness with his friends and family. He enjoyed all the outdoor sports living in Clearwater afforded him, like snowmobiling, cross country skiing, hunting, fishing and camping. An intelligent and industrious soul, he taught himself to play the accordion, piano and guitar and was always willing to pluck out a tune around the campfire and at family gatherings. He lived a long and rich life, keeping his quick wit and wonderful sense of humour with him until the very end.
Lorne is predeceased by his first wife, Margaret “Peggy” Selbee (1991), his second wife, Betty Jordan (2014), and his eldest son, Lorne Kevin Selbee (2019). Lorne will be deeply missed by his children, Phillip (Donna) Selbee, Deanna (Dave) Tomlinson, Allen (Linda) Selbee, Christine (Eric) McLean, McGarry (Kim) Selbee, Scott (Sandra) Selbee, Laureen (Mark) Jensen and Colleen Demers. He also leaves behind 25 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren to carry on his appreciation for nature, commitment to family and love of life.
Lorne’s family is very grateful for the outstanding support and care he received at the Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops and Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital in Clearwater. Condolences may be sent to DrakeCremation.com and donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC. A celebration of life will be held in Clearwater, BC at a later date.
