And He will raise you up on eagles’ wings
Bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun
And hold you in the palm of His hand.
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our Father, Nonno and Bis-Nonno Lorenzo Di Reto at the age of 89. Predeceased by his loving wife Luigia (2003), grandson Loren Luis (1986), his parents Maria and Nicola Di Reto, as well as his brother Domenico Di Reto and sisters Antonietta D’Angelo and Giovanna Silvestri. He leaves behind his sister Suor Nicla Di Reto of Italy, as well as extended family in Italy and Belgium. Loving father of Maria Di Reto, Angie Girgis and her husband Shawkey, Luisa McMaster, Roberta Dametto and her husband Randy and Enio Di Reto. He will be immensely missed by his grandchildren Emily-Ann (Matthew), Alijha (Michael), Matthew (Nada), Katryn (Jonathan), Kevin Jr., Santino and Alessia. His great grandchildren, Elaina, Gabriel, Zara, Keyva, Atticus, Roman, and Audrey will know that their Bis- Nonno is now in heaven.
Lorenzo, a man devoted to family, faith and community, lived a full life. Born in Pennadomo, Chieti, Italy, he emigrated from Italy to Belgium in his teen years, searching for new opportunities and later continued on to make Canada his permanent home in 1957. Lorenzo brought with him his excellent work ethic and his passion for music (saxophone/ clarinet). He was a proud retiree of Guelph’s Owens-Corning/NGF Canada company. Throughout the years he shared his love of music through membership of the following bands: Guelph Concert, 11th Field Regiment, Freddy Veri/Joey Macerollo and Tony Benedetti. After retirement Lorenzo joined the Coro Cantitalia and would often volunteer to perform at different cultural/social and church events with friends Moses DiCicco and the late Lorenzo Di Gravio (aka the 3 amigos). He also “stepped in time” to music as member of the Abruzzi folk dancers. In recent years, he became a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was proud to belong to Sacred Heart Parish, where he faithfully served as an usher at Sunday mass until his illness prevented him from attending church. Lorenzo lived providing for his family, tending to his garden, and bringing the joy of music to others.
Our family is grateful and appreciative of the care and support received from Dr. LoStracco, especially during these last difficult months of illness. We also thank Dr. Chan for his meticulous care over the years. Thank you to the attentive and caring staff of Hospice Wellington for making Lorenzo as comfortable as possible in his last days. A special thank you to Catherine Manning, the music therapist, who took the time to serenade Lorenzo with his favourite Italian songs. The musician in him immensely enjoyed the sharing of music.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada Foundation and Hospice Wellington. Donation cards are available at the funeral home. The family is receiving friends on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St. Guelph, ON. The family requests that masks be worn in the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church in Guelph. A private entombment at Marymount Cemetery to follow.
