Obituary of Lois Maureen Perry
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Lois Maureen Perry, advise you of her peaceful passing on the morning of November 20,2022. She passed away in hospital in Amherst after a truly courageous year long battle with cancer, which stole her independence but never her spirit.
Mom was born in Barnesville NB on Feb 17, 1933, to the late Ruel and Annabelle (Verner) Totten. She believed she was born in a snowstorm, with her father bringing the doctor to the family home by horse and wagon “up the hill”. With five older brothers and two younger sisters, she shared that their farmhouse was always full and rarely quiet. Mom moved to Amherst when she married but she always considered Barnesville home.
Mom was a woman of curiosity and high energy, always looking for the next adventure or challenge. She was happy to share her opinion on almost anything and thrived on a good debate. She was very proud of her long career working in health care, as well her volunteer work with the Lions Club and the Saint John Ambulance. She was a great cook and planted a vegetable garden every year. She enjoyed doing crafts, especially quilting, knitting, and painting landscapes. She was a competitive curler for over 20 years. Above all, she was proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, always asking about the latest family news and celebrating their accomplishments.
Lois is survived by her son Wayde Perry, and daughter Cathy Bragg Gilmore (David); grandchildren: Meghan Bragg of Westville and Courtney Bragg (Brock Robertson) of Halifax; step grandchildren: Jeremy Gilmore (Catherine)of Riverview, Florida, Peter Bragg (Angela) of Halifax, and Josh Bragg (Sarah Visintini) of Ottawa; as well as great grandchildren: Emily Gilmore, Derek Gilmore, Arley MacFarlane, Jack Bragg and Calla Bragg. She is also survived by brother Robert Grant, as well as a very large extended family in Barnesville and beyond. Mom was predeceased by her spouse Stanley Loughery; her former husband Robert Perry; son-in-law Ross Bragg; brothers: Norman, Leonard, Roy, Cecil and Lorne; sisters: Vera Northrup and Elma Cook; and sister Joyce in infancy.
The family would like to thank Dr Keith Short, Amy Thurston PCN and the entire Palliative Care team of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre for their skilled and compassionate support. We would also like to thank the staff of the “C Wing” at Cumberland Regional for the excellent care and kindness shown to mom and her family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541) ,1063 Main Street, Hampton NB. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 25, 2022, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Barnesville, NB, commencing at 1PM, followed by the celebration of life at 2PM.
