Obituary of Lois Joan Solie
Your life was a blessing and your memory a treasure.
You are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
It is with profound sadness, but unending gratitude for the blessing of her long life that the family of Lois Solie (nee Engelstad) announces her peaceful passing on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the age of 95 years. At the time of her death, as was the case throughout her life, she was surrounded by the love of her family. Lois and her twin brother, Leo, were born on a farm north of Lake Alma, Saskatchewan in 1926. She attended a one-room schoolhouse for her elementary education and completed high school through correspondence courses and one year of classes at Estevan Collegiate. After completing Normal School (Teacher’s College), Lois began her career as an educator in a one-room schoolhouse teaching for 6 years. She married Marvin Solie in 1952 and they were blessed with three children – Daryl, Myrna, and Rolan. Lois lived in Regina for over 60 years. She was employed as an Order Review Clerk at Sears for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. In her primary roles as daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Lois was, at the core of her being, a lifelong caregiver – always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. She was kind, generous, and a constant example to her family of unconditional love and acceptance. She had a quick wit and a keen sense of humour. While she did all she could to avoid any conflict in her own life, she thoroughly enjoyed a lively sparring match during Question Period in the Saskatchewan Legislature or the sharp tongue of Judge Judy. In her senior years, she enjoyed watching curling and Blue Jays baseball, as well as doing Jumble, Crossword, Sudoku, and Word Search puzzles. She enjoyed simple things and was truly contented with her life. Lois was predeceased by her husband, Marvin Solie; her parents, Ellen (Olson) and Ludwig Engelstad; and her siblings, Ruth Gibson, Berna Ciasnocha, and Leo Engelstad. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Daryl (Audrey), Myrna, and Rolan (Bev); her treasured grandchildren, Kierstin (Jose), Tyson (Jocelyn), Justine (Taylor), Dylan, Cody, Brendon, and Breanna; her precious great grandchildren, Mateo, Dominic, Anaias, Kinsley, and Layklyn; as well as her much-loved extended family and friends. According to her wishes, a private graveside service for immediate family will be held at a later date.
